'American Idol' recap: Top 12 girls perform

Janell reports on last night's Idol:

Welcome to “The Night the Ladies Answer Back.” I wasn’t aware that there was a question needing an answer, but that’s what Ryan Seacrest said, so I have to believe it. In a quick pan of the ladies, they all look sparkly. The judges come out, Jennifer Lopez is wearing a short silver sparkly dress with thigh-high boots. Steven Tyler is wearing a rugged brown jacket and shredded pants with sunglasses. Randy Jackson fails to be a rock star in his colorful cardigan. I paused my Tivo to see their outfits, and you know what? I still think Steven Tyler is hot. I don’t think I’ve put that out there for a few weeks, and I don’t want the universe to forget it. I’m so happy to see him, in his hotness, on my tv.

Ryan asks the judges some meaningless questions. When he gets to Steven, the crowd screams a lot. “I don’t have a question,” Ryan says, “I just wanted to hear them cheer.” But then he lets Steven talk about a full moon coming on, and the girls needing to sing like it’s their encore.

Ta-Tynisa Wilson kicks things off. I swear there was no hyphen before tonight. She’s wearing a black mini party dress with a full skirt, singing Rihanna’s “Only Girl in the World.” I think she’s a little nervous and her voice doesn’t sound strong enough. She struts around a lot. Steven Tyler says she sang it beautifully and he liked it a lot. Oh no, is he going to be blandly complimentary to everyone? He’s freakin’ Steven Tyler, man, I want awesome from him. Although it is nice that he’s sweet, too, I guess. Harumph. Jennifer Lopez says that it started shaky, but she brought it home and played to the crowd. Randy Jackson: “I got a feeling this will happen a lot to me this  season, disagreeing with my fellow judges.” He says it was just okay, not special or different. I guess Randy is stepping up to be the voice of reason and criticism, since Steven and J.Lo are just handing out rainbows and bunny rabbits to everyone. Jennifer likes to talk over Randy, and she says, “Being a performer is about moving the crowd, and she moved the crowd.” Randy: “I was part of the crowd, and I wasn’t moved.” Ryan: “I’ve known you for ten years, and with all due respect, it takes a lot to move you.” Ah, now Ryan will try to mock Randy as he once lovingly mocked Simon. I can see people stepping into their roles.

DJ Quik Returns With 'The Book of David'

Six years have passed since DJ Quik released his last solo album, 'Trauma.' The Compton, Calif. native is back and he's making a ballsy comeback. Quik, born David Martin Blake, will release his ninth studio effort, 'The Book of David,' on April 20 -- the same day Dr. Dre's long-awaited comeback album, 'Detox,' finally sees the light of day.

Quik hasn't exactly been quiet these last six years. In 2009, he released 'BlaQKout' -- a joint album with Kurupt -- and in 2007 he teamed with fellow Compton native AMG for a one-off album under the guise of The Fixxers. With collaborations like that, it's no surprise that the guest list on Quik's new album isn't short. Kurupt shows up again, along with Bun B, Ice Cube, Dwele, Suga Free, Jon B and Bizzy Bone.

Israeli Internet sensation Noy Alooshe has revealed that he has received death threats after lampooning a speech by Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi. The 31-year-old music journalist, who mashed up Gaddafi's infamous Tripoli speech with Pitbull and T-Pain's 'Hey Baby (Drop it to the Floor),' has racked up over several million YouTube views for his humorous video clip, but some Gaddafi supporters apparently aren't laughing.

Despite creating a second version of his comedic video for conservative viewers, which omits the bikini-clad dancing woman in the foreground, Alooshe has received threats from Facebook and Twitter users, posting comments like "We will come to get you" and "We will come to kill you," as well as anti-Israeli and anti-Semitic remarks.

Last week there was...

-a road trip.

-a field trip to the Boyce Thompson Arboretum.

-clues that Spring is around the corner.

-a couple of dinners in the crock pot.

-little boys busted for getting into the brownies for the 20th time (refer to second picture from the bottom).

-all of the earlier naughty morning memories being washed away after seeing the little truck/boy scene at the table in the afternoon.

-busting out my good old sweater skirt for the cooler temps.

-dark chocolate...Mayan style.

-Bonding with my Mom.

-Finding the craziest antique store in St. George.

-Enjoying all of the backyard views from some of the homes in the St. George Parade of Homes.

-Alice Lane hands down has the best decorated spaces in the POH. They might have been some of the only ones that didn't incorporate Tuscan and rod iron art.

-going to bed earlier.

-talking down the price of chairs @ the consignment store from $90 a chair to $50 a chair..the power of nice negotiations are my fave.

-speaking of negotiations, Maren thinks there is an option between choosing to either go to 1st grade or dance class...she seriously tried to convince me. She also told the parent helper in her class on Friday that I was being mean to her for making her go to school. I wonder what 7th grade will be like.

-Started back up Mom/kid of my choice date night.

-Maile and her beautiful artwork. There is already a whole "it's almost Mom's birthday shrine" going on in a corner of our home. Streamers were even wrapped around the kitchen cabinet hardware.

-painting with one of my new favorite colors, Martha Stewart "Saffron" (a nice orangey red color).

Almost always happy for a chance at another day and love that sometimes it is the simple things that are the best.

Fourteen weeks after the release of her debut album 'Pink Friday,' the Harajuku Barbie has earned herself an additional milestone for female rappers, with her first solo album breaking the record for most consecutive weeks spent in the Top 10 by a female rap album on the Billboard 200 chart.

"Now 14 weeks ; PINK FRIDAY BREAKS the RECORD for MOST CONSECUTIVE weeks in the TOP 10 by a female rap album on Billboard's 200," Minaj tweeted of her platinum debut. "Thank you for your continued support."
